    Description

The Infoprint 1612 and 1622 Express printers offer flexible networking options including wireless. With wireless capability, you can relocate printers quickly and easily without the cost and delay associated with physical cabling.

Infoprint 1612 and 1622 Express are monochrome printers that support Letter-size media at up to 35 pages per minute (ppm) and A4-size media at up to 33 ppm. The time to first print is as fast as 6.5 seconds for the Infoprint 1612 and 7.0 seconds for the Infoprint 1622. The printers come in the following models:

     Standard Maximum Parallel Data Bus
Model memory memory port USB port Processor Width
    --------- -------- ------- -------- -------- --------- --------
    Infoprint 1612
    4n1, x41, 32 MB 160 MB Standard Standard 366 MHz 16 bit
    4n2, x42

    Infoprint 1622
    501, x51, 64 MB 320 MB Standard Standard 400 MHz 32 bit
    502, x52

All models come with duplex, one 250-sheet drawer, and a single sheet multipurpose tray standard. One 550-sheet optional drawer is supported for a total input capacity of 801 sheets. Output capacity for all models is 150 sheet top or 1 sheet rear.

    Memory

All models have one slot for additional SDRAM memory. Memory options for the Infoprint 1612 include 32 MB, 64 MB, and 128 MB for a maximum of 160 MB of memory. Memory options for the Infoprint 1622 include 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB for a maximum of 320 MB of memory. The Infoprint 1612 has one slot for flash memory with a 32 MB flash memory option supported. The Infoprint 1622 has one slot for flash memory and one slot for an application solution feature.

All models come with 10/100BaseTX Ethernet as standard. Ethernet connections using external print servers and wireless Ethernet are also available.

    Usage rates

The maximum monthly usage for the Infoprint 1612 is 80,000 impressions and for the Infoprint 1622 is 80,000 impressions. IBM does not recommend printing to the monthly maximum on a consistent basis.

    Print quality

The resolutions of the printers are:

    • 1200 x 1200 dpi (at half rated speed)
    • 1200 Image Quality
    • 2400 Image Quality
    • 600 x 600 dpi

The Image Quality (IQ) enhancement, whether 1200 or 2400, is a special print mode designed to vary the intensity of each individual printed dot by manipulating its size to produce the appearance of greater print resolution within the limitation of a set number of dots per inch (dpi).

The Toner Darkness setting offers 10 user-selectable settings to balance print darkness and toner savings. The higher the setting, the darker the print. Within the range of print darkness settings, up to 50% toner savings can be realized. The factory default setting is 8. The Toner Darkness setting is accessible in the print driver.

    Font support

The following fonts are supported by all models:

Emulation Number of scalable fonts Number of bitmapped fonts
    ------------ ------------------------ -------------------------
    PCL 5e and 6 84+5(1) 2
    PostScript 89 0
    PPDS 39 5

Note: (1) These five additional fonts are OCR-A, OCR-B, and 3 Code 3 of 9 barcode fonts with different aspect ratios. These fonts are only available with PCL 5.

The fonts in the PCL emulation are compatible with the fonts in the HP LaserJet 1320 and include nine additional fonts and many extra symbol sets to support extra languages and applications. The fonts in the PostScript emulation are compatible with 69 of the 136 fonts in Adobe PostScript 3 and include 20 additional fonts.

Additional fonts can be downloaded to the printer RAM or optional User Flash. PCL emulation supports both scalable and bitmapped downloadable fonts. PostScript emulation supports only downloadable scalable fonts.

Additional Media Guidelines for Infoprint 1612 and 1622

Follow the media guidelines below for successful printing:

    Paper

    • Rough, highly textured, limp, or pre-curled papers will result in lower print quality and more frequent paper feed failures.
    • Colored papers must be able to withstand 200 deg C (392 deg F) fusing temperature.
    • Preprinted forms and letterheads should be selected using guidelines found in the printer User's Guide. The chemical process used in preprinting may render some papers unsuitable for use with these printers.
    • Unsuitable papers include multipart forms and documents; chemically treated papers; coated, synthetic and thermal papers; A5 paper less than 70 gsm (21 lb); recycled paper less than 75 gsm
    • Recycled paper less than 80 gsm may cause unacceptable results

    Envelopes

    • If envelope wrinkling occurs refer to the User's Guide for correct loading and stacking of envelopes.
    • All envelopes should be new, unused, and without package damage.
    • Envelopes with excessive curl or twist exceeding 6 mm, those stuck together, those with bent corners or nicked edges, or those that interlock should not be used.
    • Minimum weight: 75 gsm (20 lb.)
    • The following envelopes should not be used:
      • Envelopes with windows, holes, perforations, cutouts, or deep embossing.
      • Envelopes with metal clasps, string ties, or metal folding bars.
      • Envelopes with exposed flap adhesive when the flap is in the closed position.
    • For best results, printing on new 75 g/m2 (20 lb.) sulfite or 25% cotton bond envelopes is recommended.
    • Under high humidity conditions (over 60%), envelopes may seal during printing.

    Transparencies

    • Use letter or A4-size sheets only.
    • Transparencies specifically designed for xerographic copy machines or laser printers may be used with the Infoprint 1612 and 1622.

    Labels

Labels should be selected using guidelines found in the User's Reference, Complete Printer Reference, or the Cardstock and Label, and tested for acceptability. VINYL AND POLYESTER LABELS ARE NOT SUPPORTED. Occasional paper labels printing only.

    Certifications

The Infoprint 1612 and 1622 printers comply with the global safety standard for Information Technology Equipment, IEC 60950, and its country equivalents in the markets we serve. The following sections highlight the approvals and certifications that printer is expected to receive.
